Every big thing starts with a little effort

And every little effort at first seems insignificant. You’re tempted to discount it as silly or useless or so crazy, it’s not even worth pursuing.

Only it is worth pursuing.

You’re planting a seed of something new and illuminating and magnificent. Water it every day, and it’ll grow into a stunning tree.

Take your story idea, for example. You get fired up the first time you think about it, then the doubt starts setting in. It's not good enough. It's lame. It's boring. It's been done before. It's not original enough. No one will ever read it. So why even bother writing it?

Because no one—and I mean, NO ONE IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD—has had a life experience quite like yours. It doesn't matter if someone has written something very similar to what you want to write about. In the end the result will be different. It'll mirror you and your life and you thoughts and beliefs.

So do it.

Take that first little step, and watch your tree begin to grow...
